Ruude: How Many Times + Sweet Love (VLS) (II Da GZs, 1995)

Originally featured on UK label Mission's third and final compilation "Soul Pressure! Volume 2," Ruude were a South London-based female trio comprised of Woogee (WOOG-Gee or Woo-gi), Melissa and Sherene and briefly brought their infectious brand of Jamaican and American-esque R&B to the British underground in 1995. Production came from Chris Patrick who set up the production outfit II Da GZs in the mid 90s and eventually came up with the idea of forming the group himself. Now known as Chris "Rockizm" Patrick, he released a handful of white labels in the mid 90s
and later went by the name The Contingent at one point. His later work included remixes for the likes of Gwen McCrae and Anita Baker. As far as the group goes, it seems at one point they were tipped for big things - even described as "turning heads Stateside" in a promo sheet that came with the above vinyl - but sadly nothing much became of them after this. Two members WOOG-Gee and Melissa later appeared on a remix to McCrae's 1995 song "Girlfriend's Boyfriend" and Patrick went on to produce dull pop tracks for P.Diddy One To Watch artist Anusha.
